Jill's Review

Opens February 5, 2016

Runs 107 minutes

The films up for the Oscar are:

  • Ave Maria (Palestine/France/Germany 15 min)
  • Shok (Friend) (Kosovo/United Kingdom 21 min)
  • Everything Will Be Okay (Alles Wird Gut) (Germany/Austria 30 min)
  • Stutterer (United Kingdom/Ireland 12 min)
  • Day One (USA 20 min)

I thought all of these films were very good. Ave Maria was about a Jewish family that breaks down in front of an Arab Christian convent of Nuns - A fish out of water story that was funny and entertaining. Shok was a brutal look at two young Albanian friends trying to survive in Serb dominated Kosovo during the Kosovo War. Everything will Be Okay is about a Father trying to come to terms with his recent divorce and the custody arrangement with his young daughter. Stutterer is about a young man who dates on-line but avoids actually meeting his dates due to his stuttering. Will he ever find true love? Day One takes a look at a female interpreter's first day in Afghanistan translating for U.S. soldiers. She faces more in the first day than ever expected.

As I said, I really liked all of these.. It is difficult to pick a favorite so go see them for yourself!
